Cancer

Mo Keshtgar and team

Is there any single word which can cause more worry than cancer? Over 45,000 people annually in the UK are diagnosed with breast cancer and we know how much impact it can have on people's lives, and how frightening not just the disease is, but some of the treatments involved. As a result, we're investing heavily in some exciting new treatments from the renowned Mo Keshtgar and his team.

The Royal Free will be the first centre in the world to try treating breast cancer with Photodynamic Therapy, or PDT for short. Essentially this involves using a drug that makes cancer cells sensitive to light, and then using lasers to destroy the cancer cells.

This is a truly revolutionary therapy as not only does it mean there's no invasive surgery involved, but also, there's no ongoing radiotherapy!

Mo and his team have a superb track record of ground breaking treatments and we're excited to enable this new project and support their work.

The results of the research at the Royal Free will continue to be published widely for the benefit of people worldwide. Please make a donation and help us help others.
