Face Reconstruction

The Face TrustOne of the hospital's most ambitious plans is a pioneering plastic surgery treatment that will have the biggest impact imaginable.

Imagine the lives of the 250,000 men, women and children in the British Isles with a severe facial disfigurement. Many live an isolated life, unable to lead the normal lives that we take for granted. Now think how their lives would transform if they could benefit from surgical reconstruction and even a face transplant.

Facial Transplantation is the next leap forward in facial reconstruction. Essentially, the facial skin of a donor is used to repair a severe injury in the patient. The Royal Free's Professor Peter Butler is a world leader in this area. He has been researching the feasibility and ethics of face transplants for ten years, and now at last, his team believes the time to prepare for a series of transplant operations is imminent.

Until now, Professor Butler and the team have given their time freely, and the Royal Free Hospital has been generous in its support. But now funds are needed to pay for other costs of the operation, for the aftercare of the patient and for continuing research. If you would like to be part of the future of surgery, please make a donation and help us help others.
