Barnet Hospital Charity
The Barnet Hospital Charity was launched in June 2015. We work to make the hospital a nicer environment for patients, volunteers and staff. Our projects include providing free massage therapy to patients and care packs to those who have been admitted through A&E and have brought nothing with them. All money raised will go to Barnet Hospital.
On 3rd June 2015 the Barnet Hospital Charity was launched in a blaze of purple! Just a few of the things we do include managing the hospital volunteers and providing the little touches like toys and DVD's to keep children entertained while they are waiting in A&E. We provide and look after the art work that brightens up the walls and we fundraise to purchase specialist medical equipment and improvements to the hospital.
Over the next year we will be expanding our successful Massage Therapy service to make it available to more patients and we are planning to raise money for other projects, for example to improve the family and visitor waiting rooms in the intensive care wards.
We currently have a real need for more volunteers at Barnet hospital. This could be to meet and greet people and help people find their way around. There are also roles for people that would like to work on the wards and we urgently need volunteers to help with the fundraising side of the charity, for example collections in local supermarkets, helping at events and office support. We have many different volunteering roles both within the hospital, outside of the hospital or office based.
Fundraising for Specialist Equipment & Projects
We work closely with the hospital to identify needs and gaps where we can help make a difference. We do not fund anything that the NHS should be providing, but we provide the added extras to make life a little easier or more comfortable. For example, we buy toys and activities to help keep children entertained while they wait in A&E and we have helped make dementia friendly improvements to wards with elderly patients. We are also fundraising to extend the massage therapy service to make it available to more patients.

Emergency care packs
We make up and provide personal care packs that include soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste etc. for patients who may have been admitted through A&E and have brought nothing with them. The care packs are made up by our volunteers and are one of our little touches that make a big difference to patients.

The Massage Therapy service was launched at Barnet Hospital in April 2015. It is about treating the person and not the illness, and for many patients it is the high point of their day.
The service is available to oncology and haematology patients on the Mulberry ward and was expanded in November 2015 to maternity patients. We are raising funds to extend it to be more widely available to other patients in the future. Read more about the Massage Therapy service
