The aim of The Helping Hands Fund is to make the experience for children with cancer at Barnet Hospital as stimulating and positive as we possibly can. There are all sorts of ways in which we do this, including providing family days out, ipads for children to use, educational resources and toys, music, massage therapy and more.

The highly specialised, Paediatric Oncology Shared Care Unit (POSCU) at Barnet Hospital treats approximately 35-40 patients each year and monitors over 175 children for long term follow up once treatment has finished. Although the care of many children is provided by other hospitals, some of their treatment can be managed locally which makes life much easier for both child and family. When local care is an option, children with cancer are treated on the Galaxy Children’s Ward at Barnet Hospital. Helping Hands aims to add a sparkle to the children’s stay in our ward.

Why Barnet Hospital POSCU is so important to our patients….
‘It enables my child to have treatment as close to home as possible’
‘I really feel the oncology team know my child and family, and they will always try to help’
