RFC Support Hub wins £39,000 benefit claim for patient

A visit to the support hub has led to greater financial security and an improved quality of life and morale for one patient, thanks to Daniel Williams, support hub welfare benefit adviser.

In May last year Mr A was admitted to the Royal Free Hospital following a heart attack. He was already suffering from a number of long-term health conditions, involving frequent admissions, and was also facing the potential loss of his sickness benefit, along with his specially-adapted car.

While in hospital, he turned to the support hub for help and Daniel more than rose to the challenge. He took Mr A’s case to a tribunal and won it, securing Mr A  £7,740 a year for five years (totalling nearly £39,000) plus an additional £2,000 in backdated funds. He also ensured Mr A could keep the car.

Mr A had also been waiting for a payment of £6,000 from his local authority relating to the downsizing of his home and this too, along with money for repairs, was paid in time for Christmas.

“Mr A has reported an improved quality of life and morale as he doesn’t have to worry about imminent health assessments or being housebound without his car,” said Daniel. “He says many of his conditions are now more manageable, his stress and depression have reduced and he now has a more positive outlook on life.”
